The Devil's Dictionary
Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce ( 1842 – 1914?), nicknamed “Bitter Bierce”, was an American journalist, short-story writer and satirist. Today acclaimed especially for his qualities as a satirist, his achievements in the short story genre clearly rank Bierce among America's finest prose talents.
His book The Cynic's Word Book (1906) was reissued in 1911 under the name The Devil's Dictionary. This amazing collection of witty and satiric definitions is one of his most famous works; and it is certainly a source of inspiration and amusement up to this day.
